Tall Tales: Reflection

Reflection: In one paragraph, explain how tall tales are connected to the time and location of the story tellers. (How do these stories use the history and geography of a region to tell entertaining tales?)

Tall Tales are always connected to history and time. For instance, when the story was told back in time when segregation took place and individual rights were taken away, like Rosa Parks trying to ride the bus and refusing to give up her seat.Martin Luther King Jr.wanted equality for everyone. This affected history today because everyone now has equal rights.Stories such as these changed the way we see things today but were effected in history.

It depends when or where it was told. Like in the story Paul Bunyan he cut lumber and he was in the north. there can't be a 60 ft. tall man. Or in the story John Henry he couldn't brake through a rock and beat a machine. They use the geography and region to make a story. The history is that they made rail rodes, they also made lumber but they used different settings.

Tall tales are good stories, but sometimes you think are these connected to anything. Well they are not just random stories they're connected to time and location like paul bunyan. Around that time there was lots of trees to be cut down. He was a hero because he cut down allot trees. Or John Henry he was in a place were railroads need to be built so that story's connected to location.

Tall tales are stories that are based on real events but the characters are fake. Like paul bunyan when he and babe were walking in the snow and the 1,000 lakes were formed or when paul bunyan was dragging his axe and that created the grand canyon. The events were real like the 1,000 lakes but the characters like paul bunyan and babe were fake.

Tale tales are about an event that happened along time ago & usually exaggerated. Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill made things in history like the 1,000 lakes and the rio grande river. These things all happened in history except Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill make them fictional. Tall tales were passed on from generation to generation until they were written down.

  6. Tall tales are good and bad events that happened in the past.
These stories have to do with a certain time period. The tales are not completely true. They express a turn of events in an interesting manner. Like in the tale of Paul Bunyan he was taller and bigger than you can imagine. He took down trees faster than humanly possible. Logging was important in that time frame. People need the logs for building. The tale leads readers into the fact that machines were coming.

  9. Tall tales were very popular at one point in time because they made every group of workers feel wanted and speacial. They are also entertaining because they make up stories of how famous landforms were formed.
